Operating leverage accounting refers to the degree to which a firm utilizes fixed costs in its operations. It measures the impact of a change in sales volume on operating income, highlighting the sensitivity of profits to sales fluctuations. High operating leverage indicates that a small change in sales can lead to a significant change in operating income, due to the presence of fixed costs.
