The degree of financial leverage is defined as a financial ratio that measures the sensitivity of a company’s earnings per share (EPS) to fluctuations in its operating income, due to changes in its capital structure. It quantifies the impact of fixed financial costs, such as interest expenses, on the company’s profitability. A higher degree of financial leverage indicates greater potential for EPS volatility, reflecting increased financial risk.
