Recognition

Recognition refers to the process of formally recording or incorporating an item into the financial statements of an entity. It is a fundamental accounting concept that determines when and how financial transactions are reflected in the accounts. The difference between realization and recognition lies in timing; realization occurs when cash is received, while recognition happens when the transaction is recorded, regardless of cash flow.
