Nonrecourse Debt

Home » CMA Glossary Term » Corporate Finance » Nonrecourse Debt

A type of secured loan where the lender’s sole remedy in case of default is limited to the pledged collateral, regardless of its value relative to the outstanding debt. Unlike recourse debt, the borrower’s personal assets are protected even if the collateral value falls below the loan amount. This type of financing is commonly used in real estate and project financing to limit borrower liability.
