A Variable Interest Entity (VIE) is a legal entity in which an investor holds a controlling interest that is not based on the majority of voting rights. Instead, control is achieved through contractual or other financial arrangements. VIEs are often used in complex financial structures to consolidate financial statements, ensuring transparency and compliance with accounting standards. The primary focus is on the risks and rewards associated with the entity.
