First in, First out (FIFO) is an inventory valuation method where the oldest inventory items are recorded as sold first. This approach assumes that the cost of goods sold is based on the cost of the earliest purchased inventory, while the remaining inventory is valued at the most recent costs. FIFO def is commonly used to match inventory costs with current market prices, providing a more accurate reflection of profit margins.
