Direct Costing

Direct costing, also known as variable costing, is an accounting method that includes only variable costs—those that fluctuate with production levels—in product cost calculations. Fixed costs are treated as period expenses and are not allocated to individual products. This approach aids in decision-making by highlighting the impact of variable costs on profitability. Direct costing is particularly useful for internal management purposes and short-term financial analysis.
