Reasons to Reschedule Your CMA Exam

You may need to reschedule your CMA exam date for many valid reasons. Unexpected issues happen to all of us. Are you dealing with any of the following?

  • Feeling unprepared or needing more time to study
  • Being ill or having a medical emergency come up
  • Work or family commitments suddenly arising
  • Experiencing a personal emergency or crisis
  • Recent changes in your life impacting your ability to focus
  • Realizing your scheduled date is a hectic time at work
  • Preferring to take your exam after the busy season

Rescheduling under these circumstances is understandable and sometimes necessary. The key is being honest with yourself about your level of preparation and acting early enough to reschedule properly.

What Is the Best Time to Reschedule Your CMA Exam?

If you’ve decided rescheduling is your best option, aim to do so at least 46 days before your scheduled exam date.

Candidates may reschedule their exam appointment within the same testing window. However, if the change is made five to 45 days before the scheduled exam date, Prometric will charge a fee of $70.

Additionally, you can’t simply reschedule to the next available testing window. If you want to change your exam date to the next window, you must submit a transfer request at least five days before your appointment date. You will be charged a $150 fee, though this may vary by region.

So, ideally, if your exam is on June 15th, you’ll want to reschedule no later than April 30th. This gives you enough time to follow the proper channels and secure a new date while avoiding unnecessary fees.

Check the IMA’s exam testing windows calendar to identify the deadlines for the window you want to move to. Scheduling as far out as possible also gives you more date options.

The representatives at Prometric can help you with the rescheduling process. Contact them at (800) 479-6370 or on the Prometric website.

How Can I Reschedule My CMA Exam?

There are two main ways to reschedule your CMA exam. You can do so either online or by phone.

How to Reschedule Your CMA Exam Online

You can reschedule your exam directly through the Prometric website.

  1. Go to the Prometric website and select the option to reschedule or cancel your exam.
  2. Enter your confirmation number and last name to access your scheduled CMA exam details.
  3. Select the rescheduling option to view available dates and times.
  4. Choose a new date for your exam.
  5. Pay any applicable fees and submit your request.
  6. Check for a confirmation email with your updated exam details.

How to Reschedule Your CMA Exam on the Phone

Here’s a step-by-step guide to rescheduling your CMA exam date by phone:

  1. Contact Prometric directly by phone at (800) 479-6370.
  2. Provide the Prometric representative with your IMA identification number and exam booking confirmation number, then request to reschedule your exam.
  3. Choose a new exam date within the current testing window, subject to availability.
  4. If you’re rescheduling within five to 45 days of your exam appointment, you’ll pay a $70 fee to Prometric for rescheduling your CMA exam appointment.
  5. Receive a new authorization number. You won’t be able to take the exam without the new number.

Follow up with an email to the IMA Member Services department at [email protected] to inform them that you’ve rescheduled your exam.

To avoid the rescheduling fee, complete the steps for rescheduling directly through Prometric at least 46 days before your current exam date.

CMA Exam Rescheduling Fees

The fees you’ll need to pay when rescheduling your CMA exam depend on how far in advance you make the change and whether you’re staying within the same testing window or moving to a new one.

Rescheduling Within the Same Testing Window

If you change your exam date to a new one within the same testing window, the applicable fees are based on how close you are to your scheduled exam date.

If you reschedule at least 46 days before your exam, no fee is charged.

If you reschedule or cancel your appointment five to 45 days before your exam, Prometric will charge a $70 fee.

You cannot reschedule or cancel with less than five days’ notice before your exam date. If you do so, you will be considered a no-show, and your full exam fee will be forfeited.

Transferring to a New Testing Window

If you want to move your exam to a different testing window, it will be treated as a transfer rather than a reschedule.

ICMA charges a $150 transfer fee, and the request must be submitted at least five days before your scheduled exam date. This fee cannot be waived.

Your existing exam appointment date must also be canceled before the transfer can be processed. In addition to the ICMA transfer fee, Prometric will charge a $70 fee if you cancel your exam within five to 45 days of your original appointment date. This fee cannot be waived, either.

Do note that canceling your exam appointment does not automatically transfer you to the next testing window. To move your date to a different window, you must complete and submit the IMA’s Exam Switch form.
