CMAs end up in a wide range of finance and accounting roles. The most common titles include financial analyst, senior financial analyst, FP&A manager, cost accountant, budget analyst, management accountant, accounting manager, controller, assistant controller, finance manager, and director of finance. At the executive level, many CFOs and VPs of finance hold the CMA. You’ll also see CMAs in specialized roles like business analyst, treasury analyst, plant controller (in manufacturing), and strategic finance lead. The credential isn’t tied to one industry. I’ve coached CMAs working in tech, healthcare, manufacturing, government, energy, retail, and consulting. The common thread is that they’re all doing forward-looking, decision-support work rather than pure compliance accounting.
