Can I use the CMA designation if I have passed the exam but lack experience?

No. You can pass both exam parts and still not yet be a CMA — formal certification requires passing the exam, meeting the education requirement, and completing two years of qualifying work experience. Until all three are verified, you’re a candidate who has passed the exam but is awaiting experience verification. You should not place “CMA” after your name during this period. You can, however, list “CMA exam passed” or describe your status accurately on a resume or LinkedIn — that’s perfectly legitimate, and recruiters will recognize it. Once the IMA verifies your experience (you have seven years post-exam to complete this), you’re officially a CMA and can use the designation freely.
